How did a postal clerk and a librarian become among the most significant collectors of contemporary art in the world? A film by Megumi Sasaki explores how a couple with ordinary means did the extraordinary in "Herb and Dorothy." Over the years, the Vogel's have acquired some of the most significant art with only two rules: the piece had to be affordable, and small enough to fit in their one-bedroom Manhattan apartment.
Over 30 years, the Vogel's collected nearly 4,000 pieces including works by Sol LeWitt, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Richard Tuttle, Chuck Close, Robert and Sylvia Mangold, Lynda Benglis, Pat Steir, Robert Barry, Lucio Pozzi and Lawrence Weiner.
