Artadia Names its Finalists!

I'm psyched to see friend and artist extraordinaire Scott Ingram named as a finalist for the inaugural Artadia Awards 2009.  Artadia is a non-profit organization that encourages innovative artistic practice and meaningful dialogue across the United States by providing artists in specific communities with unrestricted awards and a national network of support.

Joining Scott are 14 other Artadia Atlanta Finalists including: Tristan Al-Haddad, Corrine Colarusso, Don Cooper, Ruth Dusseault, Sarah Emerson, Benjamin Jones, Stuart Keeler, Alexander Kvares, Fahamu Pecou, Rocio Rodriguez, Danielle Roney, Jerry Siegel, Larry Walker, and Angela West.

Applications for the Artadia Awards were open to visual artists in all media and at any stage of their career working and living in Greater Atlanta (23-county area). After artist studio visits, the jury will then select seven Artadia Awardees for two awards of $15,000 and five awards of $3,000. The list of seven Artadia Awardees will be announced by early April.

Small Stakes Spurs Concert Poster OCD

I've always loved music album art. By extension, I have an equal passion for concert posters.

That's where Small Stakes comes in. Named after a song by Spoon, Small Stakes is headed by head designer Jason Munn who shares the band's retro aesthetic and less-is-more philosophy, which I fully subscribe to. Each poster speaks to the bands personality and Munn's interpretation only puts these musicians on a bigger stage.

Sarah Oppenheimer Creates Lines of Sight

Sarah Oppenheimer's 610-3356 piece that is on display at The Mattress Factory is fantastic!

The focus of Sarah’s work is the feedback loop between constructed spaces and pedestrian motion. She studies how the built environment and human behavior reciprocally impact each other; most recently, the way that the visual progression of the human gaze is mapped by the contours of a given space. Sarah opens apertures in existing architectures, modifying the modular units that make up our standardized urban world. These apertures create new lines of sight within the space of display, and can function as both "holes" and "screens."

The title of the work, 610-3556, is derived by reference to a typology or classification system created by the artist that describes, in graphic form, how the hole is perceptually perceived and the materials used to create it.

I'm Wired Again!

After an insane two weeks of traveling to Arizona, I'm back on the grid. After a week at the NBA All-Star Game in Phoenix, it was off to Tucson for some R + R and family time.

It's high school all over again (and I'm fine with that). Today, people not only judge one another by their number of friends on Facebook, but Twitter has also become a popularity contest. Is it shallow or just plain fun?
