Guggenheim Makeover

For an exhibition opening in February called Contemplating the Void, the Guggenheim asked over 200 artists, architects and designers to "imagine their dream interventions" in the museum's spiral space. This should be interesting!

Cities: 2009

A very fun end-of-the-year exercise (and part challenge by another travel addict) to run through all of my 2009 trips. I thought I'd take Josh Spear in the number of cities visited, but looks like he took me in both cities and total miles flown. Maybe next year (but hopefully not!).

Making art in the now world

"What it means to be an artist today -- where do we start on that one?" muses Ed Ruscha, almost nonplused. Finally, the soft-spoken art veteran decides : "It means facing a lot of information that's going to be very difficult to take in and swallow because there's so much of it."

Taxi Top Art

I love Shirin Neshat and soon everyone else will, too! For the month of January, taxi commerce will take a rest as roughly 500 cabs will display a different kind of message: artworks by Shirin Neshat, Alex Katz, Yoko Ono.

All Songs Considered

I don't typically post about music (aside from this morning!) but NPR's All Songs Considered had an awesome segment this week about the best albums of 2009.Host Bob Boilen talks with Monitor Mix blogger Carrie Brownstein, NPR Music editor Stephen Thompson and All Songs Considered producer Robin Hilton opened my eyes  ears, to a numbers of gems. Great to know there is still good music being created.

I was driving back to my hotel from dinner in Boulder, Colorado last night, and this Avett Brothers song came up on KBCO. For whatever reason, it struck a chord.
