For many decades, Los Angeles lifeguard towers have been a sun-washed
shade of blue. That will change through a major new project. The Portraits of Hope
public art and civic initiative, Summer of Color, is the largest public art project in the U.S.,
and also one of the largest civic efforts in the world. For five
months beginning in May, the LA County lifeguard towers – on 31 miles
of beach -- will be transformed into a collective work of art.
The Guggenheim is hoping to plumb the creative depths of online media by partnering with YouTube for a new exhibition this fall called YouTube Play: A Biennial of Creative Video. Starting October 21, the top 20 entries will play in Guggenheim museums in Bilbao, Venice, Berlin and, of course, New York. YouTube has already inspired millions of uploads about funny cats, political rallies, music remixes, trailer parodies, crying rants, sports highlights, and sexy women. Will it become an inspiring new medium for the art community?
I'm admittedly a little late to this one but I just found ArtInfo.com on Foursquare and they've done a good job. When you check in with Art Info on Foursquare you unlock New York's art world. You'll discover the city's top art galleries, the coolest artist hangouts and more. Love the continued incorporations of digital into the art world.

At the Met (through 10/17) is Leon Levinstein (American, 1910–1988), an unheralded master of street
photography, best known for his candid and unsentimental
black-and-white figure studies made in New York City neighborhoods from
Times Square and the Lower East Side to Coney Island.

If you're around NYC this weekend, head over to Governors Island for a giant art-filled playground with the return of Figment 2010. About 400 projects will be dotted throughout the park and all are interactive or participatory in some way.
Forbes just rounded up the ever-growing “World’s
Biggest Illicit Industries” and thieves and sellers of stolen art
are cashing in $6 billion yearly, stateside. There’s only so many rich
gents whose secret penthouses need a classy spruce up: while stealing is
easy,
selling is hard.
