Damien Hirst x Surpreme Decks

Damien Hirst and Supreme re-visit their old relationship in the upcoming release of a series of skateboard decks. In addition to the similarly styled decks comes a t-shirt as well with the slogan “Life’s a Bitch Then You DIE” on the back with the theme of the decks seen on the front graphic. The collection releases in-store in the US on November 19th and online on November 23rd. Japan will see a release on November 21st.

Wedding Registry for Art!

So smart. And long overdue. Aiming to offer a less dreary alternative, New York's nAscent Art has launched a registry service. The service, dubbed ArtWish, gives couples the chance to create a registry from art works showcased by the company. nAscent Art will then email the couple's friends and relatives explaining how they can purchase works from the list outright, or make a partial contribution as a gift.

Small Stakes Spurs Concert Poster OCD

I've always loved music album art. By extension, I have an equal passion for concert posters.

That's where Small Stakes comes in. Named after a song by Spoon, Small Stakes is headed by head designer Jason Munn who shares the band's retro aesthetic and less-is-more philosophy, which I fully subscribe to. Each poster speaks to the bands personality and Munn's interpretation only puts these musicians on a bigger stage.

Tom Sachs + White Bic Lighter

Artist and sculptor extraordinaire Tom Sachs has opened the doors to his (online) store and that means it's time to bust out the credit card. From skateboard wheels to t-shirts, there are a few gems that must be had.

 

My favorite? The White Bic Lighter! "Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Kurt Cobain were all left-handed, all died at the age of 27, and autopsies reported each having a white bic lighter in their pockets. This is why it is said that white lighters are unlucky, but always in good taste."

The art of marketing can be as fascinating as art itself. That's why Charmingwall's Holiday Gift Guide caught my attention. A self-proclaimed "different kind of fine art gallery," the crew at Charmingwall is spreading its holiday cheer through a pocket sized guide about its budget-friendly (starting at $20), blue chip works from emerging artists. Who needs a $20 million Damien Hirst? Well, I do. But, in the meantime, Charmingwall offers a great alternative.

Jen Beckman's 20x200  created an incredible entry to the market for art buyers and I'm psyched to see that other galleries are drinking the Kool Aid for artists and collectors alike!
